Association of Commercial P&I Insurers (ACPII) signs agreement with IOPC Funds

On behalf of the ACPII the Secraty of the Board, Ms Liv Irene Loland signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the OPC Funds’ Director, Mr. Gaute Sivertsen , on 30 October 2023.

This agreement follows discussions within the sessions of the IOPC Funds’ governing bodies in recent years in respect of incidents involving insurers that are not part of the International Group of P&I Associations. The Association was formed in April 2022 to support and promote quality commercial P&I insurers. Commercial, fixed premium P&I insurers cover around 10% of the world’s tonnage and, as at October 2023 the Association counts some 337 tankers within its membership.

The ACPII has several meetings with the IOPC Director, Gaute Sivertsen, since 2022 ,

Ms Liv Irene Loland, Secretary of the Board of ACPII and Mr Tor Erik Andreassen, Chairman of Hydor visited the IOPC Funds’ offices in London where they signed the MoU confirming that the two parties were committed to cooperating in the event of an incident involving an ACPII-insured tanker.

This agreement marks a significant milestone for the ACPII.

ACPII Members approved by the UAE Maritime Administration

FMA circular No. 12 - Recognized Protection and Indemnity (P&I) clubs and Marine Insurers

The UAE Maritime Administration has approved ACPII members in the recently issued FMA circular No. 12 for the year 2023, related to Recognized Protection and Indemnity (P&I) clubs and Marine Insurers.

This approval means that Hydor a ACPII members, now can underwrite UAE flagged vessels and issued all required documentation.

ACPII addressed the IMO - Legal Committee

It was a great honor for the ACPII to attend the 110th meeting of the Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). (LEG 110) 26-31 March 2023 in London
The Association of Commercial P&I Insurers (ACPII) was invited to present the nature and scope of the Association to the members of the Secretariat IMO Legal Committee. On 29th of March 2023, in an informative presentation, the ACPII represented by Liv Irene Loland and Bianca te Poele , clarified the necessity for founding the Association and discussed the mission statement and objectives of the ACPII, of which the most important one is to be the reference point for quality commercial P&I insures in the global markets. The presentation was followed by a nice lunch for all the delegates.

The ACPII was founded in April 2022 by Hydor AS and MS Amlin Marine, with a clear objective to create a platform where the quality players can come together and cooperate on issue of common interest. Our ambition is ensure a single voice for the quality commercial P&I insures that can engage with all relevant stakeholders in the maritime industry. We aim to become an active partner that can contribute to vital process related to our industry , and to share information and knowledge. The ACPII is committed to contribute with training , information and awareness - and be the reference point for quality commercial P&I Insures outside the mutual system

Presenting the ACPII to the IMO Legal Committee last week marks an important milestone for the association. We look forward to continue this wok and to further engage with IMO, IOPC and all flag states, government agencies, regulators and other international maritime organisations, and to contribute in any way we possibly can.

MS Amlin Marine and Hydor launch Association of Commercial P&I Insurers

MS Amlin and Hydor, two prominent commercial Premium P&I insurers are pleased to announce the formal launch of the Association of Commercial P&I Insurers Limited (ACPII). The Association has been founded to support and promote commercial P&I in the global markets.

As part of its strategic initiatives, ACPII will liaise with stakeholders relevant to the shipping industry such as government agencies, regulators, trade associations and other international maritime and financial organisations.

Bianca te Poele, Liv Irene Loland, Eugène van Steekelenburg and Johan Gjernes have accepted the position of Directors of the Association.

In addition, Capt. Bert Wardetzki has been appointed Head of the Secretariat and Secretary to the Association.

Tom Oostra (Managing Director MS Amlin Marine) commented:

“We have been long standing advocates for a body to represent the common interests of Commercial P&I Insurers, so welcome the formation of the ACPII.”
